Lincoln

The central difficulty involved with the proposal and ratification of the 13th Amendment was racism. There was already 4 million idle African Americans, the threat of them stealing jobs made it difficult also. The people thought that passing the Amendment would lead to
voting rights for African Americans. Most of the house wasn't republican, Lincoln needed two thirds for the majority. Democrats believed Lincoln was acting as a dictator, Lincoln needed their support. In order for the Amendment to pass Lincoln used Implied Powers which had been corrupt in a way. He bribed the Lame Duck Democrats with job positions such as post master, in attempt for their support in the ratification. Lincoln lied about the peace talks because he wanted peace to be contingent on the Amendment due to the fact he would lose leverage. The ratification was important to Lincoln mainly to benefit himself and his future plan to run for re-election. He would then have the many votes of the freed African Americans. Also Lincoln would have got rid of the Emancipation Proclamation. 

Amendment Memes

The sixth Amendment puts in place rights related to criminal prosecutions. If one was to stalk Channing Tatum for example, charges would be pressed. This meme is featuring the beautiful Carthomp<33

The restriction of quartering  soldiers in a private home is against the 3rd Amendment. Carthomp and I would want to let the cute soldier in if he was cute, so we would just pretend the 3rd Amendment did not exist.

Peter Griffin gets the news that his property located at 31 Spooner Quahog, Rhode Island is not technically part of the United States Petoria was created. Peter proclaim his government is an oligarchy and he declares himself president. According to dictionary.com, an oligarchy   government is"a form of government in which all power is vested in a few persons orin a dominant class or clique; government by the few." Peter enjoys his new social standing. Peter breaks laws on United States property such as stepping on illegal grasses because he is no longer a citizen of the country. Another beneficial ability that Peter had while under the rule of Petoria was that he could annex his neighbors land, he mainly did this so he could now have pool to swim in. Downfalls to Peters plan was the United States shut down his houses electricity leading to his family suffering from  the lose. 

Chris: Dad, I tried to go to school but this guy won't let me.
Peter: Oh yeah? Him and what army?Chris: The U.S. Army.Peter: Oh, that's a good army

Other dilemmas the Griffin family faced was they could not leave their property due to the United States army surrounding their land. Also Peter's two kids Chris and Meg were affected due to them not being allowed to continue their education at public school, leading to Lois Peter's wife having to home school them both. In conclusion the Griffin family was missing out on the social aspect, the basic needs, and their kids education while being an oligarchy. 

Ratification of the Constitution

The ratification of the Constitution was difficult due to the fact some people didn't like the document in the first place. Conventions took place in each state in order to ratify the document. "Article VII stipulated that nine states had to ratify the constitution for it to go into effect". 

 

Did Americans keep calm? Anti federalists was the source of the opposing crowd. The social classes was a concern to some. Delegates of Philadelphia were accused of  being in favor of the higher class citizens. People argued that they had consequently designed a document that "served their special interests and reserved the franchise for the propertied classes".  Power of the central government was another controversy. They argued too much power was given to the central government. Also that it was at the expense of the states. "The most serious criticism was that the Constitutional Convention had failed to adopt a bill of rights proposed by George Mason". The Federalists fought back and was convinced that the rejection of the Constitution would affect the country, ending in anarchy and civil strife. Newspapers such as The Federalists responded to these anti federalists. 

    

How did they actually get to the ratification process with all that criticism and opposing views? Federalists cleared the air regarding the bill of rights arguments. "The the national government was so constrained by the Constitution that it posed no threat to the rights of citizens. Although this was said, during the ratification in Virginia Madison concluded that a bill of rights was needed. In conclusion, the adoption of a bill of rights was leading the country into a new government. 

The Articles of Confederation, Weak or Strong?

This is a highly controversial document on how much of an impact it had made in the country. The document effecting the national government but the state government as well. The Articles of Confederation was strong in way which gave the United States the ability to start foreign trade.  Borrowing money was another factor that was beneficial to the nation when this document was in place. The country was now given the opportunity to defend their selves if hard times stuck. The ability to declare of war came from the document. If needed to make peace, this was also given. We could being the operation of post offices throughout the country. Weaknesses always exist in documents, but in this case many exist. The nation and the states were beginning to clash due to lack of laws between the two. The National government did not have the power to make the states obey their laws, even though they are the higher power. Along with no system of national courts being excluded. This document did not provide any power on taxing or the ability to enforce the laws in place. A steady and strong leadership within the U.S congress was non-existing. In addition missing from this document that was supposed to help the country, no national army or navy was current.  In conclusion The Articles of Confederation had weaknesses within it that are major factors that make the country run as well as it does today.
